Just admit it. Being the youngest in your class is NOT FUN. Especially when you watch all of your friends earn their Texas Driver’s License permit before you! Here’s another thing I need to admit. When it came time to take drivers ed, being the youngest in my class might have been the least of my worries.

THE WAIT TO TAKE DRIVERS ED

Being a May baby, I was used to watching my friends turn another year older before me every year. Looking back, my 15th year had to have been the hardest. This was the year of getting my Texas drivers license permit.

My friends and I all had our cars picked out and we knew exactly what we wanted our parents to “surprise” us with the morning of our 16th birthday.
(Of course, we had no idea how much a vehicle really costs and knew our parents would be the ones picking out the car for us…) But, if you’re going to take drivers ed, what else can you expect?
Time went by and I watched friend after friend turn 16, get their license, and maybe (or maybe not), get the car they hoped for. I had to just kept waiting my turn until May.

DRIVERS ED

What a mess! Drivers Ed had to be the most difficult thing for me. I had so many questions.
I went to a brick and mortar driving school. The same place everyone in town went to get their Texas drivers license permit. The teachers were nice enough and the class was fine. The problem was my schedule. I missed so many classes I ended up having to RETAKE THE CLASS! I was so frustrated and had to FORCE the classes and drive times just to be sure I got my drivers license ON MY BIRTHDAY. (You can only imagine the lack of attention I gave the class being in that state of mind.)

THE DAY I GOT MY TEXAS DRIVERS LICENSE PERMIT!

Hair washed, make up…. Check. Abercrombie shirt and jeans? Check. Choker necklace? Check.

Was I prepared for the actual responsibility of being a licensed driver? Who even knew. All I cared about was driving myself to school in my new (to me), black Jeep Grand Cherokee and picking out my VERY OWN PARKING SPOT in the school parking lot. Lucky for me, Texas didn’t require a driving test at the DMV in order to obtain your Texas driver’s license, so my day went as planned. I was finally able to join the cool kids club! I was on cloud 9!

13 DAYS AFTER I GOT MY LICENSE…

I got in 2 wrecks… in one hour… both my fault… the second car I hit… WAS MY MOM’S.

I’m not joking.
